Roads Advisory CommitteeMulmur Township Council set up the Road Advisory Committee, which is made up of four members at large and five Council members. The Committee meets on an ad hoc basis, but will be required to meet at least once in the budget decision process. All Committee meetings are open to the public. The Committee was organized with the following mandate:
1) To develop for Council approval a road improvement schedule for the Municipal Roads System under a long range plan; that the plan be based on sound planning principles and within the current and expected future roads budget of Council; that the plan include consideration of the current usage of specified roads, and anticipated or forecasted usage of specified roads in the future; and that the desirability of future road usage be properly weighed and measured in the plan.
2) To develop a Township wide inventory of road allowances and unopened roads; that the Committee investigate the law as it pertains to the status of these roads under the new Municipal Act; and that the Committee develop proposals on what sort of usage should be allowed on each road.
3) To develop a system of road monitoring.
4) To investigate other sources of revenue for road improvements, including any volunteer initiatives, which the Committee may launch with Councils approval.
5) To investigate and develop a program of ‘best practices’; to survey other municipalities and their expenditures, and identify possible improved methods of road service delivery; to explore and recommend education for road employees. 6) To hear and be the forum for public input on the road budget. The Mulmur Township road development guiding principle is: “That Mulmur Township roads exist to service the transportation needs of Township residents and provide access for others to and from points of recreational interest within the Township. Road development will protect the scenic topography and diverse ecosystems within the Township and maintain the rural character and landscape of the area while maintaining minimum maintenance standards for municipal highways and within the constraints of a balanced budget.” All Council and Committee documents are available from the Township of Mulmur's office.
