YOU MUST HAVE MUNICIPAL APPROVAL FROM THE TOWNSHIP  PRIOR TO GOING TO THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT.
ONCE YOU HAVE OBTAINED YOUR MUNICIPAL APPROVAL, THIS FORM AND THE APPROPRIATE COMPLETED CHECKLIST ARE TAKEN TO THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT ALONG WITH 2 SETS OF BUILDING PLANS.

Municipal Approval (Dufferin County Building Form) - This form is available at the municipal office and is jointly used for municipal approvals and the Dufferin County Building Department for building permits.  On this form, you will be asked information such as the size of the proposed building, lot size, value of building, etc.  On the reverse, a sketch of the proposed building in relation to all lot lines and other buildings on the property is required.  The Township Office will check the zoning and whether the distances between the proposed structures and the lot lines are sufficient.  The fee for this service is $20.00.  You must obtain your building permit within 6 months from the issuance of the municipal approval.

Development Charges -   It is at this point that the municipal development charge is payable.  The amount is $7,408.30 which assists the municipality in upgrading services required due to new development (i.e. Transportation, Police, Fire, etc.).
This charge may be a different figure within  subdivisions  -- CLICK HERE FOR CHART

Dufferin County Building Department - Once you have obtained your municipal approval, this form and the appropriate completed checklist are taken to the Building Department located at 51 Zina Street in Orangeville.  This department is responsible for the issuance of both building permits and septic approvals.  The fees for these vary and it is recommended that you contact them at 519-941-2362 prior to building in order to fully understand what will be required (i.e. 2 sets of building plans).   For details on these time frames and fees that are applicable, contact the number above.   The County and Education Development Charges are payable at the time you obtain your building permit.
